Ovulation induction treatments

Ovulation disorders and irregular ovulation constitute approximately 40% of the causes of female infertility and approximately 25% of all cases of infertility. These disorders originate from female hormone disorders. The main treatments for ovulation induction (Ikaclomin and gonadotropins) are intended to encourage and control the process of follicle development in the ovary and later to cause scheduled ovulation.

Intrauterine insemination (IUI)

Intrauterine insemination is a common treatment for male infertility (a slight to moderate decrease in sperm quality, sexual dysfunction and the presence of spermatozoa antibodies) or female infertility (uterine cervix disorders, endometriosis, idiopathic infertility and use of donor sperm). The purpose of the procedure is to increase the number of vital sperm cells at the fertilization site. The procedure is performed by injecting motile spermatozoa directly into the uterine cavity at the time of ovulation.

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)

Children have been born for more than 30 years using IVF. The purpose of IVF and Intra- Cellular Sperm Injection (ICSI) is to fertilize the treated oocyte (egg cell) using sperm cells in the laboratory and returning the embryos into the uterine cavity after a few days. IVF includes the following stages: induction of ovulation and follow up; oocyte aspiration; fertilization of oocytes with sperm cells and returning the fertilized oocytes to the uterus.

Indications for IVF treatment:

(1) Failure in previous conservative treatments

(2) Mechanical infertility

(3) Male infertility

(4) Immunological infertility

(5) Endometriosis

Determination of the sex of offspring (PGD)

Choosing the sex of the offspring (male or female) is now possible using IVF combined with Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD).

Sperm donation

A sperm donation may serve as a solution in the following cases:

(1) Sperm agenesis in the testis

(2) Owing to a genetic disease in the male partner

(3) Mothers who chose to be single (one parent families)

(4) Same sex couples

 Egg donation

For some partners and women, egg donation is the only way of having a child.

Egg donation is a solution for treating fertility disorders in the following cases:

Advanced maternal age

Premature ovarian failure

Recurrent failures in IVF

Hereditary genetic disease

Egg freezing (oocyte cryopreservation)

The purpose of this treatment is to freeze the treated egg cells to maintain fertility for future. Than thawing and fertilization with sperm cells in the laboratory and returning the resulting embryos to the uterine cavity.

Surrogacy

Surrogacy allows couples who are unable to become pregnant and bear a child for whatever reason to have children with their own genetic makeup. Surrogacy is recommended as a treatment for fertility disorders in the following cases:

(1) Absence of a uterus

(2) The pregnancy may endanger the woman

(3) Recurrent miscarriages

(4) Same sex couples
